Based on tissue engineering technology, Project PhytoHealth PHDC02 utilizes stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED), which have similar differentiation ability as MSCs derived from bone marrow, supplemented with clinical stents that can support cell growth and differentiation, to achieve cartilage tissue regeneration and functional recovery in patients with osteoarthritis (OA). Presently, since there is no effective medical treatment available for OA, the development of this technique will be advantageous for patients with OA.

Patented technology is applied for the extraction, purification, and proliferation of MSCs from the pulp tissue of human exfoliated deciduous teeth. It has been proven that these MSCs can differentiate into chondrogenic cells, promote cartilage formation, and thereby contribute to the restoration of cartilage tissue in OA. Once development is complete, treatment can be applied to patients with acute cartilage injury and mild and moderate OA.
